Applications and Creativity

Applications

Upon appearance an application can be daunting.  You may not have all the information that's asked of you.

By the way, the difference between a resume and application is that businesses generally give out applications, while others ask for your resume.  A resume shows your education, work experience, and skills.  An application involves more of what the employer wants from you.

If you have thought about skills, or have had previous jobs in one area (working on cars and trucks, selling stuff), you may have an idea of the kind of job that would suit you.  If you don't know, that's not exactly necessary.

You have to think about what you CAN do, right now.  Not what works for you, or what you want to do, or how much you make.

You simply have to go after as many applications as you can, day and night, night and day.

Now, you may not have a phone, a home address, reliable transportation, or personal references.  If you have no work experiences or educational background, then, like those already stated, you will have to FUDGE the applications.  Desperate times call for desperate measures.

Fudging and Lying

Not everyone, but a lot of people fudge their applications and resumes.  This means outright lying or slightly changing names, dates, or addresses.

For example, if there is a 5 year gap between jobs and now, then make up something that's semi-true.  Perhaps you were in the military.  Make up something about the military (You went to war).  If you are mentally ill, say you had cancer and were sick for many years.

The truth is, if you look presentable, smile a fake smile,  know something about the job, bosses and employers will be more likely to hire you.  If you look terrible, frown, know nothing about the job, they will be less likely to hire you.  You may find that the employer won't check on the lies and fudging.  And, perhaps, they may hire you right then.  It's all about gambling and odds.

See, the most important thing is not the lie, but stepping foot in the door of that pizza joint or hardware store.  Make up references and a fake address.  For phone numbers, say you are between phone services.

Be Creative.  You are creative on the streets.  Now is the time to be creative on paper.

Resumes

Resumes are somewhat easier to be creative with.  Find a template of what a resume looks like.  Change your grade point averages from schools, make up obscure schools you went to, make up work experiences.

More than likely, you won't need a resume right now.  Generally, the type of work you need to begin with is cheap labor and wage work.  But it is something.

You can then work your way higher from there.

Creativity

Bending the truth is much better than sleeping under the bridge or on park benches, eating chicken nuggets, and drinking booze till you cry.  This is technically "conning" people.  But, again, the sense of justice and fairness has all been gone.  What you need is a place, money, food, and steady work.  And, once you have that job, if you work honestly, you are decent no matter how creatively you lie to people.

And the fact remains that those people--those bosses and employers--you may not want to lie to would walk by you on the street,  without giving a damn, would be just as disingenuous or insincere to you.

Imagination

The imagination is the most expansive human element.  You can picture things no one else can.  The imagination is a tool to aid in survival.

Children learn by using their imagination.  They learn how to role-play and be different than who they are.  They try out different personas.  And this is about survival and role-playing in society.  They are necessary.  Honesty will come--when you can stop drowning.

So be creative and learn how to make a believable application or resume.  Think about your skills.

Knowledge, Learning, Creativity, Imagination--these will be infinitely more necessary than knowing how to write, how to fix an engine, how to do surgery.  The skills of learning, imagination, and creativity, are the foundation on which you can do most of the other work skills.
